A French mutual insurer headquartered in Niort, MACIF Group continuously evolves its Macif.fr website and digital journeys to meet its members' needs.

Within the Digital and Information Systems Department, in the Digital Solutions unit, Move2Cloud brings its DevOps expertise: optimizing build, development and deployment to improve the efficiency, quality and operability of deliverables.

Client Challenge

Macif.fr and its sales funnels are at the heart of the digital relationship with members. Every change has to reach production quickly, without degrading the availability or performance of a heavily visited site.

Development teams need reliable environments (development, testing, pre-production) and a contact who can translate their needs into infrastructure, network flow openings and security rules, working with the ProdOps team.

Delivering fast is not enough: an application also has to be operable. Monitoring, operations runbooks and instructions for support services must be ready before the move to regular service.

Finally, production has to be kept running day to day: diagnosing and resolving incidents while limiting the impact on users, and continuously improving the performance of applications and infrastructure.

Move2Cloud acts as the DevOps partner of the Macif.fr development teams, from build through to operations, in an agile context. The engagement covers eight areas:

Point of contact for development teams: As the teams' main contact, the consultant identifies and handles their needs for development, testing and pre-production environments, and fosters collaboration between development and operations.
CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins: Design and implementation of robust CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, to automate build, testing and deployment, and shorten the time between a development and its release to production.
Containers with Docker and Kubernetes: Applications are packaged with Docker and run on Kubernetes, which makes deployments repeatable from one environment to the next, from testing through to production.
Automation with Ansible and Terraform: Infrastructure and configuration are described as code with Terraform and Ansible. Automation scripts and tools are developed and maintained to remove repetitive manual operations.
Production releases: Responsibility for releasing applications to production properly, and for one-off production configuration changes requested by the business, working with ProdOps.
Operability and move to regular service: Setting up monitoring, preparing operations runbooks, writing instructions for support services, managing batch jobs, network flow openings and security rule requests. At the end of the warranty period, observability and day-to-day monitoring are handed over to the ProdOps team.
Keeping production running: Keeping the applications and infrastructure behind Macif.fr and the sales funnels in working order. Diagnosing and resolving production incidents while minimizing the impact on users.
Performance and continuous improvement: Contributing to optimizing the performance of applications and the underlying infrastructure, and continuously improving the build and deployment chains.
